Where to go to play during the May Day holiday in 2021? Uncle Li and I fell into deep thought. As we all know, during holidays, popular tourist destinations in China are crowded, and crowded congestion scenes are everywhere. Li Shu and I don't want to be part of the "crowd" group, so we plan to find a niche tourist destination and stay quietly for a few days.

At this time, we remembered a movie-"See you forever". "Meeting Without Life" is an adventurous road movie directed and screenwriter by Han Han and starring Feng Shaofeng, Chen Bolin, Zhong Hanliang, Wang Luodan, Yuan Quan and Chen Qiaoen. After watching the movie at that time, Li Shu said that he would have to go to the East Pole Island where the movie was filmed in the future. I checked the tourist information of the East Pole Island and found that there is only one way to get to the East Pole Island by boat, and there are only two fixed boats every day, which is equivalent to current restriction on the island. Thinking of it this way, the East Pole Island may really be a quiet niche destination. So we immediately arranged our itinerary and prepared to go to the East Pole Island to find out.

Someone said: "If you can't go to the South Pole and North Pole, come to the East Pole." As the "easternmost island on the mainland" in the propaganda sense, the East Pole Island suddenly gained the appeal of a "must-visit destination in this life". Go to the East Pole Island to see the first dawn of the new century, watch the sunset and golden light spread across the sea, experience the style of fishermen, and taste the delicious flavor of the island. We are looking forward to this trip even before we set off.

First acquaintance with the East Pole Island

First of all, the East Pole Island is not an island, but a group of islands. The correct name should be "East Pole Islands" or "East Pole Islands". The Dongji Islands are located in Dongji Town, Putuo District, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, on the east side of the Zhoushan Islands. Tourists who want to go to the East Pole Island need to go from Zhoushan Zhujiajian Wuminsi Wharf (on April 30, 2021, we set out from Zhujiajian Wharf because the early-used Shenjiamen Wharf is under renovation.) Go by boat. There are 162 islands and reefs in Dongji Town, among which Miaozihu Island, Dongfushan Island, Qingbang Island and Huangxing Island are inhabited. There are inter-island cruise ships that can travel between these four islands.

Miaozihu Island: Miaozihu Island is the most prosperous island among the four inhabited islands and the political, economic and cultural center of Dongji Town. The island is full of various public buildings, including banks, hospitals, post offices, convenience stores, etc., as well as roads for vehicles to pass through. There are many fisherman's home-cooked meals on the island. These home-cooked meals generally provide catering services. Tourists can eat seafood and home-cooked dishes in the home-cooked meals. There are also cinemas, coffee shops, bars and Japanese food shops on the island. The number of permanent residents on the island is also relatively large, most of whom are middle-aged and elderly people.

The movie "There is no future" was filmed on Miaozihu Island. It has panoramic views of the island, bombed small houses, Internet celebrity lighthouses, and the statue of the free male statue "Cai Bo Gong". Tourists can walk on the island or take a sightseeing bus to tour around the island.

Recommended attractions for Miaozi Lake Island: Internet celebrity Lighthouse and Bird Watching Platform (the best place to watch the sunset), East Pole Pavilion (the best place to watch the sunrise), Caibogong Statue (the legend of Miaozi Lake Island), Original Stone Beach (suitable for sea fishing), East Pole History and Culture Museum (understanding island culture), Lisbon Shipwreck Memorial Hall (historical event), Daodu Street (the core commercial street of the island), East Pole Revolutionary Martyrs Monument (historical event), East Pole Stone (a visit here), etc.

Dongfushan Island: Tourists who only have two days to play will usually choose Miaozihu Island and Dongfushan Island to stay for one day each. Dongfushan Island is not as prosperous as Miaozihu Island, and there are relatively few public facilities. There are no public buildings such as post offices and police stations. The environment of Dongfushan Island is more original. Only the area around the dock on the island has roads. Most other areas are mountain roads without roads. You can only rely on walking around the island. Tourists come here to enjoy the natural scenery, among which the "First Dawn of the New Century in the Motherland" and the "Dashu Bay Stone House Group" are the most famous. Therefore, watching the sunrise and stone houses on Dongfushan Island is the most important attraction.

If you have enough time, you can also arrange a hiking tour around the island. It takes about 4 hours to walk down the coastline across the island. Be sure to bring enough water, apply sun protection, and wear comfortable shoes. If you feel unwell, please return in time. Walking around the island clockwise, the mountain road in the early stage is rugged and steep, which is more physically demanding, but you can see stone houses on the way. After climbing the mountains and reaching Elephant Trunk Peak on the easternmost side of Dongfu Mountain, most of the mountain road has become flat stone roads. It is relatively easier to walk, and the overall process is a difficult first and easy later. If you hike around the island counterclockwise, the journey will be easier first and later difficult.

Recommended attractions on Dongfushan Island: The first dawn of the new century in the mainland of the motherland (The best place to watch the sunrise, very close to the dock), Dashu Bay Stone House Group (History of fishermen, about 2 kilometers away from the dock), the No. 1 Lighthouse in the East China Sea (the best place to watch the sunset, very close to the dock), Elephant Trunk Peak (an attraction on the top of Dongfu Mountain, about 5 kilometers away from the dock. There is a small shop here to buy water), Meteorite Waterfall (south of Dongfushan Island, you can see it on foot), Furu Donghai Stone (the legend of Furu Donghai), Baiyun Palace, etc.

Bang Island: Bang Island is between Miaozihu Island and Dongfushan Island. It is the third choice island for tourists. Because the fishing village buildings on Qingbang Island are built against mountains, with scattered heights and heights, they look a bit like the "Potala Palace" when viewed from the sea, Qingbang Island is also called the "Potala Palace on the Sea." Most B & Bs here, you can see the blue fluorescent sea in the right season, and there are also artificial beaches on the island.

Huangxing Island: Huangxing Island has no tourism projects developed. Currently, few tourists go to Huangxing Island, but there are boat trips between various islands, so you can go if you want. No recommended attractions.

Note: There are tourist service centers on Miaozihu Island, Dongfushan Island, and Qingbang Island. You can get the East Pole Island travel manual (including island tour introduction, hand-drawn maps, practical information, etc.). You can also collect and stamp the last page of the manual. Go to the tourism service center of each island and stamp the stamp. I took an East Pole Island travel manual from the display rack in the boat waiting hall of Dongfushan Island Pier. When I got home, I found that I could collect chapters. What a pity.

Recommended itinerary

Our first trip to the East Pole Island took us three days.

Day 1: Fly to Ningbo Airport, then take the airport bus to Zhujiajian Wugong Temple Pier, and stay near Zhujiajian Pier for one night. [In fact, you can fly directly to Zhoushan Putuo Airport, which is very close to Zhujiajian Wharf.]
Day 2: Take a boat from Zhujiajian Wharf to Dongfushan Island, go hiking around the island, watch the sunset, and stay on Dongfushan Island for one night.
Day 3: Take a boat from Dongfushan Island to Miaozihu Island, take a sightseeing bus around the island, watch the sunset, and stay on Miaozihu Island for one night.
Day 4: Watch the sunrise on Miaozi Lake Island, and then return to Zhujiajian Wharf by boat.

The following is the official itinerary:

Day 1: Beijing → Ningbo → Zhoushan

On the afternoon of April 29, 2021, fly from Beijing Airport to Ningbo Lishe Airport, and take the Airport Bus Zhoushan Special Line (about 2 hours) from Ningbo Lishe International Airport to Zhujiajian Wudongzhi Wharf (terminal). Refer to the official website of Ningbo Airport.

Ningbo Airport is very hot, so you can wear short sleeves.

After leaving the station, you will see the airport bus sales counter. You can buy tickets directly. Then go up the escalator on the right side of the ticket counter to the second floor. Look left. Exit 29, cross the overpass, turn right and go straight, and then take the straight ladder. You can reach the Zhoushan Bus Waiting Room. [Note: There are some tourism practitioners at the airport who are privately soliciting tourists. Please be vigilant and pay attention to identification.]

The prices of airport buses are clearly priced, and each ticket has a seat number, but everyone may choose their own seat. We took the bus at 14:30 p.m., which was a purple bus with a lot of space and air conditioning. I took carsick medicine before leaving, and the driver drove steadily and didn't get carsick.

You can see the scenery outside at any time by taking the bus. Zhoushan is doing a great job in greening. There are green plants everywhere. Looking out, it is all green, giving people a feeling of vitality. Zhoushan Islands welcome you.

Zhujiajian Wuminzhi Pier

When you see a mountain scattered with small black and white houses from the car, you will arrive at the terminal station, Zhujiajian Wudongzhi Wharf. These small houses are built against the mountains and look like the Potala Palace from a distance. In addition to the dock, there are also Zhujiajian Passenger Transport Center, Pudu Tourist Bus Station, bus station, taxi station and open parking lot. It is a large transportation hub.

This terminal can also go to Putuo Mountain, with many boats. There are Starbucks, KFC, McDonald's, restaurants, convenience stores, etc. around, and the facilities are quite complete.

We stayed at the hotel closest to the marina. I chose this hotel because of its good location. You can go to the dock with your luggage.

The room is decorated with wood, clean and tidy, and looks more elegant. Although it is close to the beach, the room is not humid, but you can smell some sea breeze. The wind is very windy at night, and the wind can be heard indoors.

There are teapots and tea leaves on the coffee table.

It is worth mentioning that the hotel has a self-service laundry room that can be used for free. There is also free laundry detergent and dryer in the laundry room, which feels quite good.

We put down our luggage and went out to dinner. Thinking that this was Zhoushan and the local specialty food was seafood, we found a seafood restaurant to try the local seafood.

Prices range from 60 to 200 yuan per dish. We felt that it was not a good deal to order it, so we bought a set meal and added grilled oysters. Stir-fried sea melon seeds, boiled shrimp, stir-fried squid with green pepper, stewed fish, stir-fried shredded potatoes, etc. The set meal is quite sufficient, and we worked hard to download it. The taste of the dishes is the taste of home-cooked dishes. Basically, every dish is seasoned with pepper strips. I think the stewed fish is not bad. One of them has no fish bones. The fish meat is like tender tofu that melts when you sip it in your mouth. It's quite delicious, but other fish have a bit fishy smell. The first dinner in Zhoushan was generally good.

After dinner, we went for a stroll by the seaside. The sun had set at this time, and the sea breeze had begun to blow violently. It was a little cold, so I had to wear a windproof coat. The sky is filled with deep blue, and the photos taken come with blue filters. The endless blue is very beautiful.

Walk back to the hotel, have a good rest, and take a boat to the East Pole Island tomorrow. A good night's sleep.

Note: Shops at Zhujiajian Wharf close early, but convenience stores close at 6 p.m. If you want to purchase snacks and drinks on the island, you have to purchase them early.

Day 2: Zhujiajian Wharf to Dongfushan Island

On April 30, 2021, we booked a boat at 8:10 a.m., checked out of the hotel at 7:45, and lined up to enter the station with our luggage. The ship schedule during the May Day holiday in 2021 is shown in the following figure.

We booked the ticket three days in advance, and we can enter the waiting hall by swiping our ID card. (The specific ticket booking strategy is at the end of the travel note)

After the boat arrived at the dock, people in the waiting hall rushed forward in a crowded manner. At this time, it felt quite crowded. Everyone's faces were filled with happiness, and they wanted to fly to the East Pole Island immediately.

Cruise ships are divided into three classes: upper, middle and lower, with varying prices. The middle cabin we bought was 130 yuan per person (130 yuan is the price from Zhujiajian to Miaozihu Island. If you want to go to the terminal station, Dongfushan Island, you can make up the ticket on board. 30 yuan and you need to buy it in cash. For details, see the ticket buying strategy later). People in different cabins can go to the deck to see the sea view, but the boat is very swaying and the sea breeze is very strong. Pay attention to your safety and don't be knocked down by the shaking, and be careful not to drop your mobile phone into the sea.

I originally imagined a romantic scene with blue sky and white clouds and sea breeze blowing quietly on my cheeks, but in fact, the strong wind on the sea blew people all over the place, and everyone's hair was blown onto their faces and heads, and many people wanted to vomit. So remind everyone to take seasickness medicine before boarding.

On the way to Dongfushan Island by boat, you will stop at Miaozihu Island, Qingbang Island, and finally stop at Dongfushan Island. There is no need to change boats for the same boat.

Dongfushan Island

At about 11 noon, we arrived at the Dongfushan Island Pier. When disembarking, several crew members will help tourists pass through at the connection boards between the cruise ship and the shore, and will also help tourists carry luggage. They feel that the local people are friendly and considerate.

When you get off the boat, you can see many people holding B & B signs picking up guests by the dock. After we found the sign of the B & B we booked, the owner helped us with our luggage and then took us along the slope road on the right side of the dock to the B & B.

It is said that Dongfushan Island was named Dongfushan Island because Xu Fu settled on this island when he was sailing eastward. The entire island is about 3000 meters long and 1700 meters wide. The area is not very large. There are few flat roads, most of which are slopes and stone steps, and the terrain is somewhat complex. There is a saying describing Dongfushan Island: "The hometown of the wind, the hotbed of rain, the kingdom of fog, and the cradle of waves." Judging from this sentence, the climate of Dongfushan Island is quite changeable. There are local fishermen's B & Bs next to the dock. These B & Bs are located in different locations on the island, with different heights. Looking at the nearby B & Bs, walking over and climbing the stone stairs, to be honest, it was quite tiring.

Arrive at the B & B and check in. This B & B is a three-story building with blue and white decoration and a naval style. It looks very refreshing. I chose this B & B because it is in a good location and you can directly see the lighthouse. In addition, I read reviews that the owner of this B & B cooks very delicious, and the price is not expensive. It can be said to be the most cost-effective choice. The sea view balcony room we booked was located on the 3rd floor. The room was clean and tidy, with a separate bathroom. There was also an open-air balcony outside the room. You can see the white lighthouse when you walk to the balcony.

No. 1 Lighthouse in the East China Sea

The white lighthouse on Dongfushan Island is near the dock. It is a good place to watch the sunset. The white lighthouse with blue sky, white clouds and green sea is also an excellent background for taking personal photos.

After so long and bumpy sailing, we finally got to the island, and Uncle Li and I were a little tired. I sat on a chair on the balcony, blowing in the sea breeze, looking at the lighthouses and boats in the distance, and suddenly felt that it was good to stay quietly like this. I don't think about anything, just empty myself, um, comfortable.

When we were rested, we took our camera, power charging treasure and water and went out. We had our first meal on the island at a B & B. We ordered fried squid with green pepper, fried cabbage, fried rice with egg, fried noodles with seafood, etc. The price was not expensive and the taste was not bad. The B & Bs here are all run by local fishermen. In addition to providing accommodation services, they generally also provide catering. Tourists who do not stay at the hotel can also come here for meals. If there are many people, you can also book a group meal with the B & B owner in advance. Guests can dine indoors on the first floor or on the wooden open-air terrace on the second floor. I saw a group of young people sitting around on the open-air platform eating. The round table was filled with various seafood. They were chatting and laughing together. The atmosphere was awesome. It was great to be young.

After we finished our meal and replenished our strength, we started to swim around the island. Based on the distribution of attractions on the island, we chose to travel around the island clockwise. There are only roads around the docks on the entire island. There are no roads in other places and cannot be opened to traffic, so you can only rely on walking around the island.

We left the B & B and walked down the slope. Wherever we could see, we could see the blue sea and fishermen's customs. We could smell the smell of sea in the air, and we could also hear the sound of waves one after another. Imagine the life of the local people. This feeling was really new to us.

There is a stone step above the dock, and there is a sightseeing platform behind the stone step. It is said to be a sightseeing platform, but it is actually a slightly flat area composed of many large rocks on the shore. This stone area is still a bit steep and the sea breeze is strong, but tourists taking photos don't care about this. Many tourists will look for the best shooting angle on the stone and take photos with the sea and mountains.

Be careful not to hold umbrellas in windy places along the sea, because the sea breeze will blow the umbrella away and people will be carried away, which is a bit dangerous.

We continued to climb the mountain along the road signs and arrived at the first ray of light in the new century.

Watch the first light of the new century with you

According to measurements by the Royal Observatory in Greenwich in the United Kingdom, the first ray of dawn in the new century on mainland China's residential island is Dongfu Mountain in the east pole, and the sunrise time is 6:42 on January 1, 2001. This observation point is a flat open-air platform surrounded by stones that can accommodate many tourists. Generally, the sunrise is around 5 a.m. I originally planned to come here to watch the sunrise the next day, but on the night of April 30, 2021, strong convective weather suddenly occurred in Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions. Lightning and thunder were lightning and stormy at night. It was said that it was as dangerous as a Category 14 wind. Dongfushan Island was also within the range of the strong wind, and the entire island was hit by heavy rain, so we didn't get up the next day and didn't see the sunrise. It was a pity.

The weather is sunny and it is advisable to round the island

Starting from this observation point, there is no smooth road to hike around the island clockwise. The whole journey is about 10 kilometers. You must be fully prepared. The most important thing is to bring enough water, apply sunscreen at any time, and put on comfortable sports shoes. [It is about 2 kilometers from the first ray of dawn to the stone houses in Dashu Bay, and about 5 kilometers to Elephant Trunk Peak.]

The hiking route is established along the coastline of Dongfushan Island. The left hand is the sea, the right hand is the mountains, and the feet are stone roads or large stones. Some dangerous sections are also equipped with stone guardrails.

During the hike, we only encountered a few scattered tourists, and the mobile phone signal on the island was sporadic, which really felt a bit isolated from the world.

As we walked, we saw an uncle in front of us. The uncle was wearing a blue coat and carrying a green net bag, walking slowly. At first, I thought my uncle was picking up plastic bottles on the hiking route to protect the environment on the island, but later I saw that the plastic bottles thrown by the roadside were still there, and the uncle did not pick them up. Uncle Li and I are not sure what uncle is doing. We walked neither fast nor slow, and sometimes we would stop to take pictures. Uncle seemed to have noticed us.

We saw that uncle was dressed and should be a local, and we wanted to chat with the locals, but we were embarrassed, so uncle was in front and we were behind, so we kept a distance and walked forward together.

Later, we saw a bathroom. I told Uncle Li that there was still a bathroom here. The uncle happened to be in front of us. He probably saw that we were tourists, so he started to talk to us.

We responded naturally and asked some questions at the right time, such as "Is uncle a local? What is uncle doing here on foot? The uncle also enthusiastically answered us questions such as "what is the life of the people on the island?", giving us a certain understanding of the lives of the people on the island. Perhaps because there were too few people on the roundabout route, the more uncle chatted with us, the more relaxed he became and said a lot of his heart. We also listened patiently and knew that Uncle was a local fisherman. In the early days, fishermen relied on the sea to eat the sea and made money by fishing or catching seaweed. Later, the island developed tourism, and Uncle and his wife opened a B & B. However, a few years after the B & B opened, the couple felt a little tired, and the uncle's lover was not in good health, so the uncle gave up the B & B business to accompany his lover. The uncle was carrying a green net bag to go to the seaside to catch some conch. Later, the uncle went to catch the conch, and we continued to move forward.

On the way, we saw someone fishing at the foot of the mountain near the sea. We were far away and could only see a rough outline. Later, we took a camera to take pictures and confirmed that someone was fishing. The fishing uncle should be a local, because from our location on the mountain to the sea fishing place by the sea, there is a slope of about 70 degrees. The slope is full of steep mountain walls and rocks. Ordinary people have no way to set foot on it, and the risk factor is quite high. The uncle held the fishing pole and stood on the reef. Each person had a pole and a reef, blending into one with the surrounding sea and sky.

Sometimes we can see speedboats and cruise ships sailing across the sea. We walked under the sun and felt very hot and sweated a lot. Then we began to drink water non-stop. There are garbage cans on the roadside, and most of the cans are mineral water bottles. We were also stupid. We thought that the island was not big and didn't bring enough water as recommended. The two of us only brought one and a half bottles of mineral water, but now we are dumbfounded and there is not enough water to drink. Looking at the endless mountain road in the distance, we knew that the journey was still a long way and we had to save water to drink, so we were speechless.

After walking about two kilometers, we finally saw the first attraction on the way: the Shushuwan Stone House Group.

Stone House Group in Dashu Bay--the survival wisdom of local fishermen

In the early days, in order to resist the typhoon, local fishermen used stones as building materials and built stone houses on the beach. These stone houses are built against the mountains and are stacked on top of each other, helping fishermen survive typhoon season after typhoon season. Around 1984, there were about 120 fishermen living here. They lived on the sea and worked hard and strong to take root here. Nowadays, with the development of the economy and the departure of the fishermen, these stone houses are no longer inhabited. Some of the stone houses have collapsed and the windows have been shattered, leaving only some traces of the fishermen's life at that time. When tourists come here, they can see the early living environment of local fishermen and have to sigh at people's survival wisdom.

We walked past these stone houses and saw some workers repairing some stone houses. There were still some building materials placed under the mountain. We wondered if tourist buildings would be built in the future.

The stone house near the sea has no windows and can directly see the sea. Tourists who do not want to travel on foot can also take a boat to sightseeing along the coastline.

We continued to walk forward. It was still about three thousand meters from the stone houses in Dashuwan to Elephant Trunk Peak. At this time, my physical strength was no longer able to keep up.

Seeing the stones stacked on top of the big rocks along the way reminded me of the stones I saw in the Volcano Park on the Big Island of Hawaii. It seemed to be a direction guide, but also seemed to have a religious meaning, which I couldn't remember clearly.

As we approached the easternmost coast of Dongfushan Island, the view here widened a lot. At this time, we found several giant caves on the side of the mountain, with circular ring roofs and vertical strip gate lines, which were somewhat unique in shape. The uncle who picked up the conch told us that this was a cave built during the war. Through the cave, you can walk from one side of the mountain to the other side of the mountain, but now the inside of the cave is closed. We didn't expect that there would be a war on a small island so far away. Looking at this cave again, we felt a little scared and hurried forward.

Elephant Trunk Peak, where are you?

The next goal is Elephant Trunk Peak, which means we have to climb the mountain. I felt weak when I saw the long stone stairs on the mountain. Li Shu encouraged me to continue moving forward and not turn back. I could only climb up with my hands and feet, gasping for breath, my heart beating non-stop. After resting several times on the way to climb the mountain, we finally reached the top of the mountain and saw a large stone. However, when we looked left and right, we couldn't see that the stone looked like an elephant's trunk. Maybe our angle was wrong? We took photos of this big rock and thought to ourselves that we had finally conquered Elephant Trunk Peak. We were really amazing. The camera is quite heavy, so I can finally put it away and go down the mountain with peace of mind without any burden.

However, facts prove that we are still naive. We thought that this mountain was already the eastern end of the island, and then we just had to go down the mountain and walk back. As a result, there were several mountains behind it! We descended one mountain and had to climb another mountain. We finally climbed another mountain with great difficulty, and there was still another mountain waiting for us. Up and down, there are several mountains up and down, coupled with the howling sea breeze that is strong enough to blow people down, I feel that my physical strength has reached its limit, and the sea breeze still blows me deep into my heart. When I was climbing the mountain, my calves couldn't stop trembling. I wanted to stop and rest. The sea breeze would blow me until I stumbled, and I collapsed at that time. Uncle Li has better physical strength than me, but he also feels a little tired. Our water is running out, and the road ahead is long. When will it end? Although I wanted to give up a little, I was halfway through the roundabout road, and it was the same journey to go back and forward. I would just grit my teeth and continue to rush forward.

When we arrived at the top of a mountain with a small pavilion, we suddenly found a wooden sign standing there saying "Elephant Trunk Peak". Ah, this is Elephant Trunk Peak? Li Shu and I were speechless. We took advantage of the sea breeze and walked in the direction of Elephant Trunk Peak. We took a random photo with our mobile phone and returned to the pavilion. In fact, we still can't see that this mountain is like an elephant's trunk from this angle, but it doesn't matter to us. Our physical exhaustion makes us unable to think.

The canteen on Elephant Trunk Peak with dark willows and bright flowers

Then the turning point came. There was actually a canteen on the top of Elephant Trunk Peak selling water and food! It was like discovering an oasis in the desert. We were so excited that we immediately bought water to drink. The mineral water and drinks in the canteen are both priced at 10 yuan per bottle, which is really a conscience price.

There was also a small shed opposite the grocery store with a long table and several stools inside. We and several tourists were here to replenish water, and everyone lamented that the grocery store had saved them. What is the dark willows and bright flowers, what is a happy planet? When you have no water, suddenly drinking water, this is the biggest surprise!

The owner of the canteen is also a local. The road leading to the top of the mountain cannot be opened to traffic. The owner of the canteen also carries drinks and food to the top of the mountain with his hands. The unified price of drinks is 10 yuan, which is really not expensive. Thanks to the boss!

Huandao Line or Baiyun Palace?

After resting in the canteen, we continued to move forward. There was a bifurcated intersection in front of us. On the left was the Huandao Line and on the right led to Baiyun Palace. We asked the owner of the canteen in advance which way was easier to take. The owner said that the round-island line was easier to take, and the Baiyun Palace needed to continue climbing the mountain. So we decided to turn left and take the roundabout line. The next road was very smooth. Although it was still a mountain road, all the roads were flat stone roads with little ups and downs.

The group of people who were resting at the mountain-top canteen walked back happily along the stone road in the mountains. After resting well, it was different. My legs were stronger, walking was not so tiring, and I began to pay attention to the scenery on both sides of the road. When I see some unknown flowers, birds and so on, I can stop and appreciate it. On the way, we also saw a meteor waterfall. At first, we didn't react and thought it was a water waterfall. Later, we read the travel manual and learned that the meteor waterfall was a pile of stones leaning down like a waterfall. It was just a shape like a waterfall, not a real water waterfall.

Continue walking forward and come to the main road. Then walk into the jungle from a path on the right side of the road, and you will return to the village. The sun was about to set at this time, golden light shrouded the village, and the sea in the distance was sparkling and looked peaceful.

Passing by a B & B, ice powder was sold at the entrance of the B & B. We bought an ice powder and sat down to rest. There is a yellow Shiba Inu in the B & B home. This little Shiba Inu is quite funny and runs around and is very lively.

Watch the sunset on the East Pole Island with you

Walking from the village to the dock, it was just sunset time, and many people were waiting for the sunset at the dock. Uncle Li and I took out our camera and mobile phone and began to wait.

At about 6:30 p.m., the sun quickly set from the distant sea level. We didn't take a few photos, and the sunset disappeared, leaving only a blue-purple halo floating on the sea, like a faint ink painting.

Today, I walked with Li Shu for about 4 hours. My legs were shaking and I was exhausted. When we returned to the B & B, we lay down and couldn't move. After maybe resting for a while, the two of us went out for a barbecue. The barbecue price was okay, but the taste was average, so we went for milk tea again.

At night on Dongfushan Island, there were not many people on the road. We could only hear the whistling wind and the sound of waves hitting the rocks in the distance. It still felt a little cold, so Li Shu and I went back to the B & B to rest. That night, heavy rainfall and 14-magnitude winds occurred in Jiangsu and Zhejiang regions. We also felt the terrible storms on Dongfushan Island, but the weather turned fine the next day.

Day 3: Dongfushan Island → Miaozihu Island

On May 1, 2021, at 7 a.m., I first used my mobile phone to buy a ticket for Miaozihu Island back to Zhujiajian on May 2 (you can buy it one day in advance, see the ticket buying guide at the end of the article for details), and then we got up and packed our luggage and went to the dock to buy an inter-island ticket from Dongfushan Island to Miaozihu Island.

Ferry tickets between the islands need to be purchased in cash at the terminal on the same day. The one-way cost is 30 yuan. Please bring cash with you. On May 1, the earliest voyage from Dongfushan Island to Miaozihu Island was at 9:30 a.m., and the ticket service counter at the terminal started selling tickets one hour or one and a half hours in advance. We started queuing at 8 a.m., and there was a problem with the machine at the ticket counter. It was not until around 8:20 that we started to sell tickets manually. We bought our tickets and bought breakfast near the boat waiting hall.
Tip: There is a small shop selling snacks next to the ticket counter, but the store does not have much change and cannot be exchanged for cash, so it is better for everyone to bring their own cash in advance or exchange cash with tourists around them. There is a small display stand in the dock waiting hall with the East Pole Island travel guide manual on it. It is quite practical, so you can take one as a travel reference.

In the morning, there are many small stalls selling scallion pancakes and tea eggs near the Dongfushan Island Pier. These stalls are all opened by local fishermen. The food sold is the same and the price is the same. The price of scallion pancakes is about 15 yuan. The restaurant next to the dock also sells seafood noodles, seafood porridge, fried rice, etc. for about 30 yuan.

At 9:30 a.m., the boat had not arrived yet, and there were more and more tourists in the waiting hall. Some tourists began to line up. Li Shu and I also joined the queue. The number of people queuing increased, resulting in congestion in the entire waiting hall.

Around 9:50, the boat arrived and ticket checking began. Tourists rushed forward in droves, regardless of whether they were queuing. Everyone actively or passively crowded to check in. There was no point in queuing.

The seat number is printed on the ticket, so you can sit according to the seat number. The cruise ship departs from Dongfushan Island and passes through Qingbang Island. It will stop at Qingbang Island and drop off passengers before finally arriving at Miaozihu Island. The journey takes about 30 minutes.

Miaozihu Island

As soon as we arrived at Miaozihu Island, we found that Miaozihu Island was more modern and commercial than Dongfushan Island. Once you leave the dock, you can see sightseeing buses around the island. The streets are full of caravans selling seafood and dry goods. The facilities around the dock are also more complete. Road signs and colored paintings can be seen everywhere, giving a stronger sense of art.

The hostess of the B & B picked us up outside the dock. We walked up the mountain to the B & B we booked.

This B & B is very close to the dock. The decoration is simple and modern, and the interior is clean and elegant. It looks very comfortable. You can see the sea from the floor-to-ceiling windows of the room, and the view is relatively open. The owner of the B & B is a couple, and the landlady is also a chef. When we eat at the B & B, the landlady is in charge of the cooking.

There is a puppy named Potato in the B & B. It is super cute and very close to each other. It runs around the door of the B & B. It is very lively and popular. When we were eating at the B & B, potatoes were jumping under our tables. They were so cute. B & B catering prices are moderate. Noodles, rice noodles, rice cakes, fried rice, etc. are basically around 30 yuan. Simply eating is not expensive. If you order seafood separately, you will have to calculate the price based on the market price. We ordered scrambled eggs with sea fly, fried squid with green pepper, minced pork and eggplant and fried rice with egg. The taste was very good, so we decided to order it. Regarding the sea fly scrambled eggs, Li Shu and I ate the small fish inside, which tasted salty and fragrant, so we checked out what sea fly was. Yan, also known as "Haiyan" or "Haixian", is a young fish of anchovy. It is small in size and is mainly produced in Xiangshan County. After dinner, we began today's trip.

The weather is sunny, so it is advisable to take a car around the island

Given that our long trek on Dongfushan Island yesterday was too painful, we decided to take a sightseeing bus on Miaozihu Island and no longer walk.

The sightseeing bus ticket office is at the exit of the terminal. We walked there and bought tickets on site. The entire round-island tour of Miaozi Lake is 88 per person. On the day of ticket purchase, the car will stay at each sightseeing spot for a few minutes, making it convenient for tourists to get off and take photos before heading to the next sightseeing spot. If you want to stay at a tourist spot for longer, you can also take the next sightseeing bus and remember to get on the bus and show your ticket for the day's round-the-island tour. If the sightseeing bus never comes, you can also call the phone number on the ticket and the sightseeing company will send a bus to pick up the person.

We also booked a sunrise viewing the next day at RMB 66 per person. At 4:30 in the morning the next day, a sightseeing bus would pick us up at the B & B and then go to the East Pole Pavilion to watch the sunrise. After watching the sunrise, the sightseeing bus will take us back to the B & B. The principle of Li Shu and I visiting Miaozihu Island is to take a car if we can and never take one step more.

The sightseeing bus has 3 rows of seats and can seat up to 9 people. After we got on the bus, the driver began to take us around the island clockwise.

The stone guardrails along the coast are painted with different stripe colors, and there are rudder decorations. They look very fresh and are suitable for taking island photos.

There are some fishing boats docked on the shore, and the daily life of local fishermen can be vaguely seen.

The blue sky, the sea, lighthouses, fishing boats, and anglers are full of pictures at all.

Miaozihu Island is the filming site of Han Han's movie "We Will Never Meet Again", so movie lines can be seen everywhere on the island.
"Like means being presumptuous, but love means being restrained."
"I was once disappointed and disappointed, lost all direction, until I saw the ordinary, which was the only answer."

The movie allows more people to know about the East Pole Island, and the East Pole Island is also striving to make its tourism resources visible to more tourists. When you walk on the island, you can see colorful caravans selling specialties, you will also notice the large fishermen's hand-painted drawings on the walls, and you can also see the fresh color of the exterior walls of the B & B. The entire island is filled with literary atmosphere, making people involuntarily want to stop taking photos and check in.

East Pole Stone: A visit here

There is an open space next to the East Pole Stone where many sightseeing buses are parked. There is also a tourist service center here, and the sightseeing buses will stop here for a while. Tourists can take photos with the East Pole Stone, which is a standard photo for a visit here.

Dried fish dried on the shore will be put on seafood noodles on the island. They are fresh and delicious.

The sightseeing bus travels clockwise from the dock, with the sea on the left and B & Bs on the right. It starts to go up the mountain from the East Pole Stone, passes through the residential area, and reaches the bird watching platform.

Bird watching platform, also watch and enjoy the sunset

The bird watching platform is on the west side of Miaozi Lake Island. You can watch seabirds flying here and it is also a good place to enjoy the sunset.

There is also a bird-nest-shaped photo spot here, surrounded by countless flowers, suitable for couples to take photos and check in.

We walked here that afternoon to watch the sunset.

When the sun slowly sets in the west, warm yellow light covers Huangxing Island in the distance. The golden sea is sparkling, and the whole scene is as gentle as an oil painting.

The sea breeze is a little cold, but the sunset is beautiful. What is even more unforgettable is the people who enjoy the scenery with you. The two people's memories of the sunset on the East Pole Island are exclusive memories that belong to the two people every time they recall in the future, as if they were inserted into the scene at that time in an instant.

Haijiang Guard Gate Observation Platform

Sightseeing buses will pass by military bases, so be careful not to take photos. As the entrance of the "first sentry on the sea", Miaozi Lake is guarded by many soldiers, guarding the territory of the East Gate of the motherland, which also illustrates the important military status of Miaozi Lake Island. We can have the better life we have now because of their selfless dedication.

From this observation deck, you can see the panoramic view of the island.

Dongji Stone Beach

The next stop is Dongji Stone Beach. You need to purchase tickets separately. 80 yuan per adult and 40 yuan per child. The price includes services such as kayaking, sea fishing, and reclining chairs. Someone got off the bus and went to play at this station. We didn't go, so we just took random photos here.

The next stop is Dongji Pavilion.

East Pole Pavilion, enjoy the sunrise

The East Pole Pavilion is the best sunrise point on Miaozi Lake Island. The sunrise time is from 4:00 to 5:00 in summer and from 5:00 to 6:00 in winter. The location here is high and the view is relatively wide. If you look into the distance, you can directly see Qingbang Island.

We took a sightseeing bus here the next day (May 2, 2021) to watch the sunrise, and many people also walked along the road to the top of the mountain. At 5 o'clock in the morning, the sun had not yet come out, and a blue-purple halo could be vaguely seen above Qingbang Island. Everyone was waiting patiently.

The weather was not very good that day, and there were many dark clouds. The sun was hidden behind the clouds and was faintly visible. Only a rough outline could be photographed, like chicken egg yolk. Although the sunrise is not so dazzling, this feeling of waiting and expecting is still worth experiencing.

The small house blown up by "Meeting Forever"

The small house that was blown up in the movie "No Future Meeting" has become a tourist attraction after the local area was restored. The house collapsed again during the typhoon a few years ago. This is the house that has been restored again. It is uninhabited, just checking in. Many young ladies took photos near the house, and the wooden railings behind the house could also overlook the dock.

The last stop is the statue of Caibo Gong and the Internet celebrity Lighthouse.

The statue of free man--the statue of Cai Bo Gong

Cai Bo Gong is known as the free male god of the East Pole Island. He has the legend of "Qingbang Miaozi Lake, Bodhisattva wears cage trousers." Cai Bo Gong's original name was Chen Caifu, and he was from Hui 'an, Fujian. Early Fujian fishermen wore vests and cage pants, which are the costumes on the statue.

More than 200 years ago, a fishing boat hit a reef near the East Pole Island, destroying the boat and killing people. Only fisherman Chen Caifu survived by swimming to Miaozi Lake with good water. Chen Caifu knew that Miaozihu Island could shelter from the wind and rain, so he settled on the island and made a living by picking up conches and growing vegetables. In order to point out the direction to other fishermen, he would go up the mountain to light a fire to guide the boats during foggy days, and let the boats go to Miaozi Lake to avoid danger. The fishermen on the boat thought it was a Bodhisattva. Later, Chen Caifu's physical condition deteriorated. Half a year later, when he went up the mountain again and set fire to guide the fishing boat on a rainy night, he was exhausted and died of exhaustion. Many days later, the fishermen found that there was no longer fire guiding the mountain top and thought that the Bodhisattva was no longer showing its spirit. Some fishermen dared to go up the mountain to check. When the fishermen discovered Chen Caifu's body, they understood what was going on in the fire navigation at sea. Later, in order to commemorate Chen Caifu, the fishermen built a temple statue to honor him and named the mountain the "volcano". This is also the origin of the legend that "Bodhisattva wears cage trousers on Miaozi Lake in Qingbang".

The statue of Caibogong is about 400 meters away from the Internet celebrity lighthouse and requires walking down the mountain. Many tourists will stop at this station for a long time, and then wait for the sightseeing bus to arrive and then take the bus back to the dock or B & B.

The statue of Bo Gong Cai is at the highest point on the top of the mountain. There is a garden under the statue. The legendary story of Bo Gong Cai is also recorded on the garden walls with color paintings, allowing tourists to better understand his story. According to the signs, you can go through the jungle to the Internet celebrity lighthouse. On the way, you will also pass a rainbow staircase. Tourists can go up and take photos, but the height is a bit high and dangerous, so you need to do what you can.

Internet celebrity lighthouse, it is advisable to check in

The Internet celebrity lighthouse is red and white. This lighthouse is the first thing tourists see when coming by boat. It is the best place to watch the sunset and a check-in point for Internet celebrities.

In the vast blue-green sea, the red and white lighthouses point the way to ships.

There are many big round stones around the lighthouse, and many beautiful ladies and sisters take photos with the lighthouse on the big stones. There is no protection around the stone, so you should pay attention to safety when taking photos.

There is also a grayish-white lighthouse standing on the sea in the distance, facing the red and white lighthouse in the distance.

After seeing the lighthouse, we returned to the statue of Caibo Gong the same way we came. On the way, we took some photos with a telephoto lens. We could see docks and houses in the distance, boats and floats passing through the sea, and people fishing on the reefs in Shanghai. These pictures are pure and beautiful, as if time has stopped here and accumulated time.

Back at the foot of the statue of Caibo Gong, you can take a sightseeing bus back to the dock area, or you can ask the driver to take you to the vicinity of the B & B. We took a sightseeing bus and arrived at Daodou Street.

What street is Daodou Street?

Daodou Street is near the East Pole Stone. When you see a colorful hand-painted wall, go up and pass a daily food store and you will see the sign of Daodou Street.

As its name suggests, this street is a slope. There are tourist service centers, milk tea shops, gift shops, post offices, museums (fishermen's painting exhibition halls), etc. There are some hand-painted paintings on the walls on both sides of the road, and telephone poles on the roadside also There are hand-painted animal patterns, full of art.

We also saw the local people's activity room, where a group of elderly people were happily playing cards. It was quite interesting.

Passing a gift shop on the way, we bought the owner's homemade Dongji refrigerator stickers and postcards. The owner also stamped us with a homemade Dongji seal on the postcards.

If you go further, you will reach the East Pole History and Culture Museum. The museum is divided into three exhibition halls, namely the Folk Customs Exhibition Hall, the Lisbon Shipwreck Memorial Hall and the Fishermen's Painting Hall. Admission to the museum is free. We also went in and took a look and learned about the early living environment, living tools and historical events of the local fishermen.

When you exit the museum, turn right, go straight and turn right, and you will see the only post office on the island. This post office is quite small. You can't find it without looking carefully.

There is a fisherman's painting gallery on the island. These paintings use bright colors and lines to show the life and imagination of fishermen on the East Pole Island. The paintings are quite special and infectious.

East Pole Freedom Theater--the location of "There is no future"

Walking into the alley from the East Pole History and Culture Museum, we saw this unique East Pole Freedom Theater. We saw that this movie theme bar was also the location of "Future Meeting". We were quite curious, so I went in and had a look.

On the left side of the entrance to the theater is the wine bar, and on the right side is the theater. One side is modern and the other is retro. We ordered coffee and rested here for a while. The theater is relatively dark, movies are playing on the screen, the walls have been damaged by time and look a little dirty, the floor is made of cement, and the overall decoration looks like the nostalgic style of the 1980s.

We asked if we could take photos, and after getting permission, we took some photos at the theater. Looking at the big words above the theater,"Unity, Tension, Serious, Lively", I feel a bit transitory.

Further into the alley, you will find the fishermen's houses on the island, and you can also see houses made of stone. Walking out of the alley, we were a little tired, so we went to a bar and cafe on the island to rest.

This bar needs to be climbed up and is located at a high location.

The store provides a variety of western food, coffee, alcohol, beverages, etc., and the decoration is relatively modern. There are also postcards left by many people posted on the wall inside the store.

It is also the open-air bar with the best view on the island. Guests can sit on wooden stools on the open-air terrace and watch the sea view. Uncle Li and I ordered two milkshakes and went to the scenic spot outside to sit down and rest.

Drinking a cool milkshake, basking in the sun, blowing the sea breeze, listening to the sound of the waves, and looking at the approaching ships in the distance, I just want time to stay at this moment.

There was a white dog lying on the steps of the bar. Its eyes looked like a big shot, too disdainful.

Eastern Pole Island Group

After resting, we took some photos of the island's customs with our camera. The island felt beautiful at random, and some scenes were full of fun.

Both locals and tourists can find their own space here.

In the evening, we had dinner at the Japanese food shop on Daodou Street. This restaurant is the only Japanese food store on the island. The wooden decoration in the store is very Japanese, and there are many Japanese posters and decorations posted on the walls, giving a very Izakaya atmosphere. In addition to providing Japanese ingredients such as ramen Shouxi pot fried dumplings, etc., the store also provides Korean food such as Xin ramen army pot. The taste is okay, but there are a little fewer seats and you need to wait.

After dinner, walk back to the B & B. At night, the wind in Shanghai was gentle and it was still a little cold. The night covered the island, and the colorful lights were reflected on the sea. There were not many people on the road, as if the entire island was sleeping.

We are leaving the East Pole Island tomorrow, and we are a little reluctant to part. In just three days, we learned about the history and current situation of a distant island. It is like an isolated paradise. The local people are very friendly, the folk customs are simple, and the natural scenery is outstanding. I think I will come again in the future.

"So what if you return to ordinary? I want to be young and crazy.".

See you soon, East Pole Island.

About accommodation in the Antarctic Island

Accommodation on the East Pole Island is mainly island B & Bs. You can book rooms online in advance. The prices of B & Bs are relatively favorable during the off-season, or you can find B & Bs after you visit the island. If it is peak tourist seasons such as May Day, you may not be able to get tickets, and the price of B & Bs will also increase. If you book a B & B but don't get a ticket, you need to discuss with the B & B owner in advance whether you can get a refund. If you can't get a refund, you can see if you can arrange to stay in the future.

Since ferry tickets can only be booked 3 days in advance, and it is difficult to unbook accommodation during holidays, tourists need to make their own assessment of whether to book B & Bs multiple days in advance. Booking a B & B in advance may give you a discount, but if you can't book a ticket and you can't go to the East Pole Island, you may lose the cost of the B & B. The official recommendation is to buy a ferry ticket first before booking accommodation.

The terrain on the island is complex, and B & B owners generally provide terminal pick-up services. You can communicate with the B & B owner for details.

About Antarctic Island Food

East Pole Island is located in the East China Sea and is also located in Zhoushan Fishing Ground, so seafood here is a signature. Recommended local dishes include: tiger head fish and tofu soup, wild mussels, steamed large yellow croaker, spicy snail sauce, etc. Some seafood are seasonal ingredients. Seafood prices will be relatively expensive, ranging from tens to hundreds. At the same time, restaurants or B & Bs generally also provide simple seafood meals, such as seafood noodles, seafood fried rice, seafood fried rice, etc. There are also home-cooked dishes such as tomato and egg noodles, egg fried rice, fried potatoes, minced pork and eggplant, etc., with the price is about 30 yuan. In short, the food on the island is rich and frugal.

About the tourist seasons and weather on the East Pole Island

Best tourist season on the East Pole Island: May to October every year. The weather changes greatly, so you need to pay attention to the official weather forecast.
Reference season: We went during May Day in 2021. We can wear short sleeves during the day, but at night it is windy on the island, so we have to wear a coat to prevent wind.
